Soulcentricitea Soul Sistars Seminar

  • BLK + BRWN. 104 1/2 West 39th Street Kansas City, MO, 64111 United States (map)

The mission of the Soul Sistars Seminars lecture series is to create Brave spaces for Black Womxn to come together and a platform to elevate our voices. Topics range from race, spirituality, relationships, travel, gender identity, parenting, finances and more. The theme of this series focuses on a lens of Black Womxnist thought.

A Womxnist is essentially a black feminist or feminist of color. The term Womanism is a social theory based on the history and everyday experiences of black women. The change in spelling sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers black women have faced, but to also show that women are not the extension of men. The X also makes the term inclusive of Sistars with Queer or transgender identities.

There will be a suggested $10 donation per attendee at each event and the fees collected will be donated to the guest speakers. The series will be available as a podcast and the  reception September 9th will be a listening session of all the lectures in the series.

Tea and refreshments will be served at the reception
